You've spent weeks in CAD. The model is solid. The tolerances are locked. What you need is a physical part — made in the right material — by someone who understands the difference between a prototype that looks right and one that survives an autoclave, a fatigue cycle, or a chemical soak.
The Gap Between CAD and Reality
Research labs and R&D teams face a specific challenge: they need one part, made correctly, often on short notice, in a material most fabrication shops have never touched. Consumer 3D printing services don't run PEEK. Machine shops won't quote a single PPSU fixture. DC Additive Pros was built to fill exactly that gap.
We operate the Vision Miner 22 IDEX V4 — a professional FFF machine with a 500°C hotend, 100°C actively-heated enclosure, and dual independent extrusion — purpose-built for the high-performance polymers engineering research demands.
Accepted File Formats
Send us your file in whatever format your CAD environment produces:
- STL and 3MF (preferred for immediate printing)
- STEP / STP (parametric geometry, we slice in-house)
- IGES (legacy CAD interchange)
- Native files: SolidWorks (.SLDPRT), Fusion 360, PTC Creo, Siemens NX, CATIA
Not sure your file is print-ready? Send it anyway. We review geometry, flag features needing modification for printability, and advise on orientation for maximum mechanical performance. No charge for the initial file review.
Send it to us — free file review plus a quote within one business day.

Materials for Serious Research
- PEEK — biocompatible (ISO 10993), chemically inert to most solvents and acids, continuous-use to 250°C. Used in implant prototyping, chemical reactor fixtures, vacuum-compatible components, and satellite structural brackets.
- ULTEM 9085 — aerospace-grade, FAA-recognized per FAR 25.853, UL94 V-0. Ideal for wind tunnel models, thermal test articles, and interior aircraft components.
- ULTEM 1010 — autoclave-sterilizable to 121°C at 15 psi. Used in medical device tooling, food-contact fixtures, and composite layup tooling.
- PPSU — steam-sterilizable at 207°C, transparent to gamma radiation. Common in reusable surgical instruments and cryogenic fluid handling.
- Carbon-filled and glass-filled nylons — lightweight structural jigs and fixtures requiring dimensional stability under load.
Typical R&D Applications We Support
- Functional prototypes for mechanical testing (tensile bars, flexure specimens, fatigue coupons)
- Surgical guides and anatomical models for pre-operative planning and medical device validation
- Microfluidic channel housings in chemically resistant polymers
- Composite layup tooling and mandrels in high-temperature ULTEM
- Satellite structural brackets in PEEK with mass-optimized lattice structures
- Thermal and vacuum test articles for environmental qualification programs
- Custom jigs, fixtures, and inspection gauges for production validation
- End-use replacement parts for legacy equipment no longer supported by OEMs
One-Off and Small-Batch — No Minimums
There is no minimum order at DC Additive Pros. If you need one part, we make one part. If you need three iterations to bracket a tolerance study, we run three. No setup fees, no tooling amortization. Most single-part jobs ship within 3–5 business days.
Confidentiality and NDAs
R&D work is proprietary. We treat every file as confidential. If your organization requires an NDA before sharing design files, we'll sign one — just ask. We do not share, reproduce, or retain client geometry beyond the scope of the job.
Government Labs and Federally Funded Research
DC Additive Pros is registered on SAM.gov. Federal labs, FFRDC researchers, university programs on federal grants, and SBIR/STTR awardees can procure through standard government contracting channels. We provide material certifications, traceability records, and print parameter logs on request.
