N52 Magnetic Rack Builder: Tube Racks and 96 Well Plate Separators

Build an N52 magnetic bead separation rack for your lab. Choose a magnetic tube rack for 1.5 mL or 2.0 mL microcentrifuge tubes, or a 96 well PCR plate magnetic separator, pick your size and color, and see your price with free US shipping included. Made to order in the USA by DC Additive Pros.

Strong N52 magnets, fully enclosed. Every rack uses N52 grade neodymium disc magnets, 12 x 2 mm, sealed inside the rack or under a glued cover so nothing touches your samples. We do not use small or low grade magnets to save cost.

For Research Use Only. Not for diagnostic or clinical use.

    Size guide

Option What it holds Published size we design to
1.5 mL tube rack Standard 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tubes, snap cap or screw cap Body about 10.2 to 10.8 mm across, about 38 to 41 mm long
2.0 mL tube rack Standard 2.0 mL microcentrifuge tubes Body about 10.5 to 11.0 mm across
96 well plate separator Skirted and semi skirted 96 well PCR plates ANSI SLAS footprint 127.76 x 85.48 mm, 9 mm well spacing

Sizes come from the makers' published dimensions, checked across several brands. Measure your own tubes or plate if you use a brand that is not listed.

    Why N52 magnets

Customers told us that racks with small or weak magnets were not good enough, so every DC Additive Pros magnetic rack uses N52 grade neodymium disc magnets, 12 x 2 mm. On the fixed rack and the 96 well separator the magnets are sealed inside the printed body while it is made. On the slider the magnets sit in pockets in the bar under a glued cover strip. Either way the magnets are fully enclosed and do not touch your tubes, plates or bench.

Bead pull time depends on your bead kit, volume and buffer, so we do not publish speed numbers. Follow your kit protocol and wait until the liquid is clear.

    Care and cleaning

    • Not autoclavable. No heat sterilization, hot water baths, dishwashers or warm drying ovens.
    • Wipe clean with mild soap and water or a quick 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe, then air dry.
    • Do not soak in alcohol, bleach or solvents. Keep phenol and chloroform off the rack.
    • Keep the magnets away from pacemakers, magnetic cards and sensitive electronics.

Your rack is made from a durable polymer by additive manufacturing. Fine layer lines on the surface are normal.

    Frequently asked questions

What magnets are in these racks?

Every rack uses N52 grade neodymium disc magnets, 12 x 2 mm. They are fully enclosed: sealed inside the printed body on the fixed rack and the 96 well plate separator, and covered by a glued cover strip on the slider. We do not use small or low grade magnets to save cost.

Slider or fixed magnets, which should I pick?

Pick the slider if you want to switch the pull on and off without moving tubes. Slide the bar in to pull beads to the tube wall, slide it out to release them for mixing. Pick the fixed rack if you prefer the magnets always on and simply move tubes in and out of the rack. The slider is our most popular style.

Which tubes fit the tube rack?

Standard 1.5 mL and 2.0 mL microcentrifuge tubes with a body about 10.2 to 11.0 mm across. We checked published dimensions from several makers. See the compatible list in the builder for your size. Set tubes with the cap hinge facing outward, toward the rack edge.

Which plates fit the 96 well separator?

Skirted and semi skirted 96 well PCR plates with the standard ANSI SLAS footprint of 127.76 x 85.48 mm. Non skirted and deep well plates are not offered for this separator.

Can I autoclave or heat sterilize the rack?

No. These racks are not autoclavable. Do not use heat sterilization, hot water baths, dishwashers or warm drying ovens. Wipe clean with mild soap and water or a quick 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe and let it air dry. Do not soak in alcohol, bleach or solvents, and keep phenol and chloroform off the rack.

    How fast will beads pellet?

That depends on your bead kit, buffer volume and viscosity, so we do not publish a pull time. Follow your bead kit protocol and check that the pellet has formed and the liquid is clear before you remove the supernatant.

    Is free shipping included?

Yes. Free shipping within the United States is already in the price you see. The price shown is the price you pay. We ship only and do not offer local pickup.

    How do I pay?

Pay securely by card at checkout. Your order is printed to order and usually ships in 3 to 5 business days.

    Is this for clinical use?

No. These racks are For Research Use Only. They are not medical devices and are not for diagnostic or clinical use.
