Frequently asked questions
What are these bone models for?
For education, training and demonstration only. Not a medical device. Not for diagnosis, surgical planning, clinical use, or implantation. Not sterile; do not autoclave or sterilize. Keep below 50 C (122 F). They are made for anatomy teaching, hands on skills practice in training labs, and display.
What are they made of?
Each model is printed to order in a bone simulation filament with the look and feel of bone. The material is made for cutting and drilling practice. Fine layer lines on the surface are normal. Each model has a dense outer shell over a lighter inner lattice, so drilling feels like passing through a hard outer layer into a softer core.
How accurate are the shapes?
The shapes come from one adult reference skeleton in the BodyParts3D anatomy database, smoothed for printing. Real bones vary in size and shape from person to person, so think of these as typical adult bones, not an exact match to any person.
Can I choose left or right?
Yes. Paired bones come in left or right. The left model is an exact mirror of the right.
What sizes can I order?
Most models are life size (100%). The femur also comes in a three quarter size (75%), which is easier to handle and store in a classroom. Skulls are made on request.
Is the life size femur one piece?
No. It is printed in two halves that join at the middle of the shaft. Two built in pegs line the halves up, and they press together by hand.
Can you print a model from my own imaging files?
No. We print our catalog bones only and do not accept personal imaging files.
How do I clean the models?
Wipe with 70% isopropyl alcohol and let air dry. Do not soak, autoclave, sterilize or put in a dishwasher. Keep below 50 C (122 F), so do not leave them in a hot car or in the sun.
Is free shipping included?
Yes. Free shipping within the United States is already in the price you see. The price shown is the price you pay.
How do I pay and when will it ship?
Pay securely by card at checkout. Models are printed to order and usually ship in 3 to 7 business days. Life size femurs can take a few days longer.
Do you offer classroom sets?
Yes. Choose up to 30 of any model in the builder and pay online by card at checkout, whatever the order total.
