Sizes and limits

Scan big. Print to our build sizes.

Scanning works on any part that can reasonably ship, up to about 48 in long. Printed replacements are limited by the one piece build size for each material. Larger parts print as bonded sections, priced automatically in the builder.

Printed replacement material Largest one piece size
Durable polymer, flexible polymer 400 x 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in)
ABS, ASA, nylon carbon fiber, PPSU, PEI 9085 grade, PEEK (heated chamber) 350 x 350 x 450 mm (13.7 x 13.7 x 17.7 in)
Longest side of your part Scan only, from Scan + CAD, from
Up to 4 in (about 100 mm) $119 $311
4 to 8 in (about 100 to 200 mm) $149 $442
8 to 14 in (about 200 to 350 mm) $199 $577
14 to 24 in (about 350 to 600 mm) $279 $733
24 to 48 in (about 600 to 1220 mm) $399 $1,048

Starting prices for simple, matte parts. Detail, surface and spray change the price, and the builder shows yours. Parts over 48 in long cannot be mailed in; email info@dcadditivepros.com.

  • We do not reproduce brake, steering, fuel or gas system, electrical insulation or load bearing safety parts.
  • Deep internal passages a scanner cannot see are rebuilt from measurements we take by hand.

How much does 3D scanning and reverse engineering cost?

Scan only starts at $119, Scan + CAD rebuild starts at $311, and Scan + CAD + a printed replacement starts at $371. The builder prices your part from its size, detail, surface and service level. For example, a 4 x 3 x 2 in part with moderate detail and a matte surface is $143 to scan, $402 with a STEP CAD rebuild, and $462 with a printed replacement in durable polymer.

How does a quote from a photo and my measurements work?

Your photo shows us the shape and detail of the part, and your length, width and height set the size. The price on screen is what you pay at checkout. We confirm the final price when we inspect your part, and if it changes, you approve the new price before any work starts.

What happens if the final price is different?

If inspection shows the part needs more work than your quote, we email a revised price and wait for your approval before we start. If it needs less, we refund the difference. If you decline a revised price, DC Additive Pros keeps the scan and analysis fee shown in your quote, refunds the rest and sends you your scan mesh files. You pay return shipping at actual cost, and your part ships back after that invoice is paid.

What if I do not pay the return shipping invoice?

Your part ships back after the return shipping invoice is paid. Parts not claimed within 60 days after the return shipping invoice is sent may be recycled.

How do I send you my part?

After checkout, shipping instructions are emailed with your order confirmation. Pack the part well and ship it to us at your cost. Parts arrive by mail or parcel carrier.

Who pays to ship my part back?

You do. Once your part arrives, we weigh and measure it and invoice the actual return shipping cost. If you ordered a printed replacement, it ships back in the same box as your original.

What is 3D scanning spray and will it hurt my part?

Shiny, clear, black and reflective surfaces are hard for a 3D scanner to read. We may apply a temporary 3D scanning spray, a thin matte coating that is generally easy to clean off. The builder suggests it for glossy, clear and dark parts, and you can turn it off. If we find it is needed and you did not select it, we ask before adding it.

How long does it take?

Scanning and analysis take 2 to 4 business days after your part arrives. Scan + CAD typically takes 5 to 9 business days, and Scan + CAD + a printed replacement typically takes 8 to 16 business days, depending on size and material.

How large a part can you scan and print?

We scan parts of any size that can reasonably ship, up to about 48 in long. A printed replacement in one piece can be up to 400 x 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in) in durable or flexible polymer, and up to 350 x 350 x 450 mm (13.7 x 13.7 x 17.7 in) in ABS, ASA and engineering materials such as nylon carbon fiber, PPSU, PEI 9085 grade and PEEK, which print in our heated chamber machine. Larger parts print as bonded sections, and the builder prices the sections and bonding for you.

What files do I get?

Scan only includes STL and OBJ mesh files. Scan + CAD adds an editable STEP file. The replacement option adds the printed part, and you keep all the files.

Will you keep my part and files confidential?

Yes. A free NDA is available on request, and your files are never shared or reused.

Are there parts you will not reproduce?

Yes. We do not reproduce brake, steering, fuel or gas system, electrical insulation or load bearing safety parts, or any part where a failure could injure someone.

Where are you located?

DC Additive Pros is a manufacturer in Rockville, Maryland. Every printed part is made in USA and ships anywhere in the United States.
